We are happy for this topic,

We are happy for this topic, we can improve our collaboration by sharing what we are doing in our schools by attaching tangible examples such as videos, audio, photos. Even if it is an issue to have equipment we can use our laptops for video and audio. We are also required to appreciate what our colleagues are doing.

Good points Felix, such kind

Good points Felix, such kind of community collaboration will lead to support of our teachers towards promoting early grade reading in our schools. VIDEOS, photos and printed texts are very good for students to learn from especially reading. THE QUESTION TO THE MENTORS, DO WE HAVE THE CAPACITY TO GIVE SUCH MATERIALS TO OUR TEACHERS? HOW MANY HAVE ALREADY DONE THIS?

Raymond this a good question

Raymond this a good question that I want to comment on. For sure it is not easy for mentors to provide these materials to teachers and that why some supports and assistance are needed. For example how can you use the videos if you want to help students to read lyrics with out a projector?  But some materials can be found like printed materials helped by the schools.

Thanks.

Thanks a lot Raymond for this

Thanks a lot Raymond for this interesting topic, as we all know it is through reading that learning can take place. If this reading starts at early age is more advantageous. therefore, as mentors we need to start working together with our teachers to provide support for the EGR. my question goes to all of us. what can we do to this properly and to make sure that our teachers can start helping students to read?

THE SCHOOL LEADERS AND

THE SCHOOL LEADERS AND  MENTORS WOULD MONITOR ALL READING ACTIVITIES IN SCHOOL AREA AND ORGANIZE THE READING COMPETITIONS. TO PROMOTE THE LEARNERS TEACHERS SHOULD FOCUS ON FOUR BASIC SKILL FOR ACQUIRING A LANGUAGE SUCH AS LISTENING,READING,SPEAKING AND WRITING.

Igorora, it is really nice

Igorora, it is really nice because these days it is learning through community of practice and it is one way of promoting learner centred methodology. This EGR is cross cutting and it will not bore any of the teachers being at primary or secondary levels because no one can understand or learn any concept if he/she cant read.

It was a good thing choosing

It was a good thing choosing to discuss the "Early Grade Reading". It touches the soul of mentors and pushes us to work towards the ends of this program for those children of between 6-10 of age. I am also not unmindful reminding that there are the teacher who find it hectic reading the so-called long literatures. I have experienced when I used to to post some Educational articles via whatsap. They might delete all my posts without reading them and answered me back saying "stop sending these wordy things" with the explanation that these were filling  up the memory of the phone. Anyone can question how this teacher will facilitate in Early Grade Reading among our Rwandans of tomorrow.

Give advice of how I or others with the same problem can influence those teachers for a change.

As an EGR students, we have

As an EGR students, we have learnt many which could help the learners in P1 to P3 to read and write early. For example where we have seen that Kinyarwanda is foundation of other subjects, if a child fails in Kinyarwanda, it will be difficult to succeed in others. We make practice in what we have learnt in from P1to P3 and after we assist our colleague teachers to do the same.

Dear EGR students,

Dear EGR students,

I think this is a great opportunity for you to demonstrate to the mentors and teachers whore not taking this course what you have gained so far and the changes you have made in your classes  and how students appreciate what you are doing.

Can you share where to start when you are teaching and writing to students of 3-6 years?

Dear colleagues I do

Dear colleagues I do appreciate this topic about what can be done to help our colleagues for promoting EGR,therefore we can promote it in the community by promoting the culture of reading in our young children and showing them the importance of reading by telling them that always knowledge is found in books or written materials and that in order to be skillful they have to read books.

Not only children but also we have to encourage their parents to develop that habit by helping their kids to read when they are home and to provide books to them and slowly by slowly the reading culture will be developed in our coming generation.

Thanks and your comments are needed.

Jerome finally your here,

Jerome finally your here, this place has been missing your brilliant ideas and knowledge.  Those are good ideas and we would like the community already here to transfer it to the teachers who will transfer the same to the students hence transfer of knowledge. I like the idea of parents but if we can first help our teacher community and later through students to parents.

As you said this must start from teachers first and my suggestion is that the mentors can share the said strategies with their colleagues through different in services training.
