Starting now, MCOP team will be available to hear and discuss with you about what (MENTOR) has done TO CREATE OR REINFORCE AN ENGLISH LANGUAGE RICH ENVIRONMENT AT HIS SCHOOL, this Friday’s session will be to share your views on what YOU have our schools?  We will welcome your thoughts, comments and questions specifically in relation to the topic!!

This is very useful and applicable for the learners of secondary schools.For this level, we teachers can tell and show the learners all ways or means that will facilitate them improving their skills.Through  website they can get different new words. This will push learners to check in dictionary the meaning.Through this task. learners will be rich in English.You do this as homeworks or group activities to present in class.

Building English language

Building English language rich environment is about using every opportunity to use language, to interact, to share a focus, to talk, to take turns. Building a language rich environment is also about building a nurturing environment, giving our students, teachers a chance of building their self-confidence. And finally, it is about building a learning environment, creating a place where language and learning can all take place together.

For building English language

For building English language rich environment,we encourage teachers and learners to use  English when discussing ,read different books and share  with others what they read in those books always in English.but we still facing problems of getting enough time because of teaching a lot of periods.

Good morning, what i have done to create or reinforce English language rich at my school, I created reading club, i use to encourage my fellows teachers to converse in English, i gave some motion to learners then they discuss it after they expose in public!

I  use  what  I  call  'The 

I  use  what  I  call  'The  word  of  the week'  where  I  use  some  tongtwisters  and  I  encourage  students  to  read  them  and  have  sens  of  them.  I  Also  use  debates  where  students  express  their  ideas  through  the  topic  given.  thank  you.

STEPS TO ENCOURAGE YOUR

STEPS TO ENCOURAGE YOUR STUDENTS SPEAK ENGLISH

At first you might get frustrated when students speak their own language in class. Keep this checklist in mind and it may help.

  • Always present yourself as an English speaker, right from the start.
  • Don’t be tempted to lapse into the students’ language to explain, regain control or reply to a question. Patiently reply in English.
  • Don’t be tempted to slow down.
  • You may feel put off when they call to each other in their mother tongue What’s she saying?” Use pictures, gesture, facial expression and rephrasing to get your message across.
  • Lapsing into quick explanations in their language will undermine your role. Tuning-in will take time! Keep at it!

Activities to encourage English
Here are more ways to create opportunities for simple communication in English lessons:

  • Start each lesson by asking students about their week, weekend or previous evening. Talk about yours in a natural way: “Did anyone see that funny film on TV last night?”
  • Ask students about their area or information you may need to know. Simple requests for help, such as: “Does anyone know if there is a bank open on Saturday here?” Ask for suggestions for places to visit . Even with beginners, opportunities can arise: ask for the time, the date, how to get to places nearby etc.
  • Ask for explanations in English whenever students are able. This stretches students.
  • Involve students in board work, asking them to spell aloud a word you are writing, inviting younger learners to complete a summary, write a question or correct a mistake on the board.
  • Avoid asking “Do you understand?” Try to get more comments with questions to check understanding: “Why is there an 's' on this verb?” or “Can you pronounce this word?”
  • Get students to refer to an English-English dictionary (take your own if necessary). Play games involving definitions (eg. Guessing a described object; animal, vegetable or mineral?; or What’s my line? with job descriptions.) Do simple crosswords with clues.
  • Play games where use of the mother tongue loses points for the team.
  • Practise and encourage all common classroom requests: “Can I have another piece of paper?” or “May I go to the toilet, please?” - Students may not use English requests amongst themselves but insist they do with you.

Encouraging students can eventually pay-off. If they enjoy your lessons, their attitude to speaking English will improve over time.

thank you so much.Jean Pierre.your contribution is very helpful.For me, to create english language rich environment,I invite a teacher who is good at English,to come to my classroom,and I tell the learners to ask him/her any questions about a given topic I've chosen.e.g:It may be about disease,sport,job,animal,crop,etc.He/She answers to the questions .But many times ,I do myself the activity with my students.

we formed English clubs
we engaged learners to use English every where they are.
teachers were encouraged to provide instructional teaching materials while teaching.but these will perform in process.

​Hello all of you parterners and colleagues!It is a long time to me without posting a suggestion here bcz where I work we don't have power electricity & network but i m happy to be back on platform.What i did in my school to reinforce English language although i don't have enough time,i try my best by helping my fellow teachers to speach English during break time,at my school we have the permenent hour of training every Wednesday,We have English clubs between teachers to teachers and teachers to learners

Hello dear fellow mentors and TCOP users, to break the ice let us tell you what i have done to reinforce an English language rich school environment at my school.

To reinforce the English language I used to create different games and song in English because I know that many people like them . Here I teach them but by explaining their meaning in their mother tongue.

Also I used debate sessions for teachers and learners and after debate we help one another to encourage those who tried by giving them simple rewards and then show some errors made and correcting them.
